Beboppin' and Jitterbuggin' at the Beehive! I can still bop, can you? I just can't do it as long as I could many moons ago. Ha! Thanks to Marilyn Ash class of 1959 for sending the original Beehive Directory for the years 1955-1956 and to Paul Fitzner for scanning it and uploading it to his class of 1961 website and sending it to me too. However, due to the years of the directory and the photos, I believe it fits websites relating to the fifties. Therefore I converted it to a pdf file and added it to our class website. Perhaps Paul will put it in the History of Thomas Jefferson High School website. He now has it in the pdf format in his class website. Thanks for the credit given Paul! The directory includes names from Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, Port Neches, Bishop Byrne, St. James, Groves, and Port Acres students. It appears most of the members were from TJ and BB. However, the W by some names tells me that was the school the person was attending when they joined the Beehive. Check it out. The list includes addresses and telphone numbers. Do you remember what your phone number was way back then? What does the M stand for, which school? Was Nederland High School called Mid-County back then? J = Jefferson; B = Bishop Byrne; PN = Port Neches; G = Groves; W = Woodrow Wilson; A = Stephen F. Austin; M = Mid-County (Nederland) I suppose. The Beehive cover image is linked directly to a pdf file of the Beehive Directory. You will need Adobe Reader which is free to download at Adobe Reader Download. Some of the pages are sideways because that's how the book was printed. There is a function in Adobe Reader to rotate the page either clockwise or counter clockwise. Click on View and select Rotate. However, this will rotate all of the pages and you will have to repeat that function to rotate the pages back. Why not just save the file and print it out?

Click on the image to view the Beehive Directory 1955-1956. It is 39 pages. Dial up will be very slow. Paul Fitzner has uploaded some of the photos to his class of 1960 website. You may view them by clicking here. You may have to disable your popup blocker or hold the CTRL key down when you click on the picture. A new browser window opens. Or deselect that option at the bottom of this page.

Click on the image below to view the Fountain and Statue in a larger view. This photo was taken from the 1956 yearbook. The photo covered two pages therefore I had to edit out the line down the right side of the picture. The statue has been moved twice that I know of. Later I will upload a picture of the statue where it is today. So the questions of the month are: "Do you know where the statue is now, do you know what was across the street from the fountain and statue, and who was the statue dedicated to?"
