At the request of some classmates and friends, I have searched and found many things
of interest and put this page together. Graphics still need to be added. Please, I need
your input to make this page a success. Send me links or events you believe would be of
interest to anybody living or visiting our neck of the woods. Thanks!
We have alligator festivals, rice and pecan festivals, heritage festivals, Mardi Gras
celebrations, Christmas events and so much more. There's duck hunting and plenty of
fishing, sailing and beaches to include nearby Galveston beaches and many cultural
museums and events in the Houston, Texas area. Jefferson County Texas being on the
Southeastern end of Texas makes us near events within the western Louisiana area too.
Ahhhhh gumbo feasts and cookoffs as well as crawfish festivals abound down here. We are
the home of many music legends such as George Strait, Tracy Byrd, Tex Ritter. Janis Joplin
graduated from my high school the same year as my brother. Football coach Jimmy Johnson
also graduated from my high school. The famous attorney Walter Umphrey graduated from my
high school. So come on down and stay a spell. You will find something for yourself,
every member of your family and your circle of friends too.

SHANGRI LA BOTANICAL GARDENS AND NATURE CENTER Reopening on March 7 after being damaged
by Hurricane Ike, this 252-acre site is situated along Adams Bayou and is filled with exotic
matrices of native and exotic flora in nine formal gardens organized by shape, texture, and
color. First opened in 1946 as a pet project of local timber baron H.J. Lutcher Stark, this
modern-day Eden also boasts a prized herony on Ruby Lake, a 1,232-year-old pond cypress,
and three educational outposts reached by electric boat.

I currently reside in Port Neches, Texas and many evenings go to the Neches River
to eat our take out food and watch the sunset and the moonrise and of course tugboats
go down the river. My grandfather piloted a tugboat in his latter years so watching
the tugs go down the Neches River is a fun thing for me to do. Watching the sunset
and the moonrise is still romantic!
Port Neches Chamber of Commerce has a calendar of events for the city of Port Neches as
well as the calendar of events for River Fest. In May of every year we celebrate River Fest
on the Neches River. Neches Park is full of Pecan trees so beware if you have allergies to
