Diane Capps' Responses to the questionnaire: Uploaded in 2004. 1. Current name you go by. Diane Noel Lee 2. If you are a female, please include your maiden name while in school. Capps (I was born Diane Lee Capps, became Diane Lee Bedsole, and then dropped Bedsole -- I legally made Lee my last name and made up a new middle name.) 3. Did you have a nickname in high school and if so what was it? No nickname (although I do have a friend now who calls me "Birdie" because of my Internet handle: Texas Songbird.) 4. Your email address. If you have more than one, give only the one you want to be published online. The email address page is protected by a password gate. Please only include one email address. dlee40 at lifename.net 5. Where do you live? City and State please. Austin, Texas 6. Your occupation or if you are retired, what was your occupation? Editor, and I am also a licensed local pastor in the United Methodist Church. 7. If you are retired, what are you doing now? Still working (update: Diane is an associate pastor at her church.) and taking theology courses. 8. Your hobbies and/or pastimes. Singing (my idea of a great party is one where we wind up singing around a campfire or a piano) Reading Computers Church and Emmaus 9. How many children do you have and where do they live? Three -- two in the Austin area and one in Lubbock -- They range in age from 39 to 43. 10. How many grandchildren do you have? 10 grandchildren (three are what I call "instant" -- that is, my children married people who had children and I got them instantly!) My grandchildren range in age from 2 to 18. 11. Did you hold an office while in high school, participate in sports, the band, the Hussars, etc.? Did not hold any office. Was in choir and that quasi-cheer group -- what was it called, the Jackateens? 12. What were your aspirations when you were in high school? To be a teacher 13. Did you accomplish most of the goals you set for yourself back then or did you alter your direction? I did eventually become a journalism teacher, but only after 20 years as a reporter and later as a newspaper editor. I am certified to teach journalism, English, history, and speech communication. I am now a QA Editor at Hoover's, a publisher of business information. It had never occurred to me to enter the ministry (although my father was a preacher) until recent years. I am now embarking on fulfilling the educational requirements to be an ordained minister and am hoping to be assigned to a church as pastor. 14. What was your favorite song during your high school days? Can't remember a favorite-favorite, but hearing "You Belong To Me" (see the pyramids along the Nile), "Tenderly" (the evening breeze caressed the trees tenderly), and "My Happiness" always bring me back to the Elks Hall in Port Arthur or other memories of those days. 15. What was your favorite movie back then? Don't remember, but probably a musical at the old Port Theater. 16. What were your favorite hangouts? i.e. The Beehive, the movies, the drive in, Pleasure Pier, etc. We lived almost next door to the Port Theater, so that would be on the list. Maybe the drive-in there on what I guess is now Gates Blvd. near 9th St. (but the street had a different name then, although it totally escapes me right now. The name of the drive-in was maybe Skips?) I always loved the Pleasure Pier for the Texaco summer picnics. 17. Do you have photos of any of these events? No 18. What was your favorite subject in high school and why? I was not the insatiable learner in high school that I am now. I don't remember a favorite subject or class. 19. Who was your favorite teacher or was there a teacher who inspired you? Don't remember anybody in particular from high school. 20. What was your most embarrassing moment or your worst nightmare during high school years? Don't remember. Actually, high school was something of a blur for me. I was dating my soon-to-be husband, and we married in my senior year, so I wasn't paying much attention to what was going on around me. 21. Where did you meet your mate if you are married? (not necessary to include previous mates if you are divorced or separated) I met my husband (now ex) when his cousin and I needed a ride to go get our boots for the Jackateens (is that the right name? It doesn't sound right, or maybe it's just spelled wrong). She sat next to him on our way there, and I hurried to the car so I could sit next to him on the way back. 22. Do you know of any classmates who are deceased? If so, please relay the information so it can be added to a memorial page. Yes. Rosemary Rummel, but I think you already know about her. What are your favorite websites. Please list no more than three and please no "Adult" sites. http://www.seniornet.org (SeniorNet) http://www.imdb.com (Internet Movie Database) http://www.hoovers.com(Hoover's -- I HAVE to say that since I work for the company! 23. If you could change history, what would you do differently if anything at all? Keep it brief and you do not have to share, you don't have to have anything you would do differently either. I don't think I would change anything careerwise, except I would have started my quest for the ministry sooner (I let myself get discouraged about 15 years ago when I first started thinking I was called. But had I gone on then, I would be ordained and a full-fledged minister now.) In my personal life, I think my marriage at 17 1/2 was a mistake and I might have done things differently there, but if I had not married, I wouldn't have three great kids and 10 grandkids, so I would probably have done even that. 24. If you could go anywhere in the world and be any thing you wanted to be at this stage of the game, where would you go and what would you do and why? I'd like to travel over the US and abroad (if my arthritis would let me). Why? Because it's one more learning experience, and a fun one at that. In addition, I'd like to write books or have my own community or Christian newspaper. Why? Because I'm a good writer, plus I have a good sense of news and I see the need for objective community and Christian newspapers. 25. If you could go back to our high school days, which year would you go back to and why? Considering our high school days were 1954 to 1958 including Woodrow Wilson Jr. High years. High school was not memorable -- I wouldn't go back. See response above to question 20. 26. Is there anything in particular you would like to see on this website? No. 27. Do you have any photos of yourself then and now? If you don't know how to scan or don't have a scanner, would you be willing to send copies of the photos so I can scan them for use in the website? I have photos, but they're in boxes and I don't know which boxes. Few current photos. 28. How computer literate are you? Do you need help with any of this computer stuff? I won't mind helping. I give a simple step- by-step list of how to. I'm not talking instructions, just help if needed. Fairly computer literate. 29. Three part question: your favorite color, favorite number, and your favorite movie of all time. Color: turquoise, with purple a close runnerup Number: probably none, but if I had to say one, I'd say 5 Movie: hardest question of all. Well, I did narrow it down to about 10: It's a tossup between "Somewhere in Time," "How To Steal A Million," "Angel and the Bad Man (the only western I really like), "Father Goose," "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," "High Society" (which was based on "The Philadelphia Story" -- I like them equally), "Kiss Me Kate," "Sabrina" (one of the few remakes where I like both versions), and "The Princess Bride." The song: "You Belong To Me" Diane used to sing this song a lot in high school. Today it has a different meaning. Diane is the associate pastor at her church in Austin.
